She’s anyone YOU want her to be…..and so much more! Lately, I have been lucky enough to be included in a fabulous organization in Tulsa called Dress For Success. I recently Co-Chaired a fund raiser for Dress For Success Tulsa at She Theater and Lounge. This fundraiser had the theme of “Barbie Party” and it was really about supporting female independence, allowing women to dream about becoming anything they really want to be!
Barbie has been around since 1959 and has had a significant impact on our social values over the years. Who doesn’t remember playing with Barbie’s when we were younger? Barbie has been a household staple through decades and is an affluential part of female culture today. Mattel has overall designed Barbie in four new figure types; tall, petite, curvy and the original. Girls at a very young age are given the choice to dream to be anything they want to be and that is the same mentality we have at Dress For Success Tulsa.
We are dedicated to empower women by embracing their dreams and leading them to take the first steps in attaining their goals. At the Tulsa Chapter, we allow women to pick five different wear-to-work outfits, therefore they can have a complete work week’s wardrobe. What I love at DSF Tulsa is that we don’t stop with a new wardrobe. We additionally provide classes women can attend to learn about make-up and hair. And if that was not enough, we teach them how to search online for the best career opportunities, along with how to write an amazing resume.
While researching Barbie’s historical magazine covers to use for our event, I came across an amazing editorial I loved from Forbes magazine. And today, when I was getting my mail, low and behold, there was another Barbie beauty on the cover, none other than Miss Kylie Jenner.
I have always liked the saying “go big or go home”and that’s what we are trying to do, encouraging women everywhere. Dream big and become anything YOU want, from an astronaut to an olympian athlete, to a world-renown chef, designer and entrepreneur. Barbie is all of these and you can be too!
Below are some of the TV air time we received for hosting this event, along with the link to the article written by Good Day Tulsa!
